The Crooked Man - Video Game review

I bet this image has been abused to hell and back but it came with the game so why not

To give his life a chance of pace (a life which hasn't been working out so well for him) David Hoover decides to move into a new apartment; the apartment, however, isn't all that it seems. David decides to investigate further, and with what little information he has he decides to go on a journey for the previous tenant....

The Crooked Man is doujin soft (self made/published) horror adventure game in a similar vein to the more popular Yume Nikki and Ib (though much closer to Ib due to it's puzzlyness), though unlike the two this was made in Wolf RPG editor (the previous two where made in RPG maker for those of you who are curious). The game was created by Uri, who has made at least two other games, both of which are up and translated on http://www.vgperson.com/games/

What can I say about it? It is a nice looking game, with challenging puzzles that really require you to be observant and examine everything. As someone who's still piss scared of the dark I dint find the game too scary, and when something did pop up it was more fun than terrible.

In case you dint get it I meant not being too scary as a good thing

Also, as a fan of VNs I liked that the game had multiple routes and the occasional CG; the game only featured around one CG per chapter however, so the scarcity of CGs left me disappointed. The story of the game was also fantastic, it was deep but it dint come of as silly or grimderp; it might even make you rethink life a little. Finishing the game was very satisfying for me.

I know exactly who's getting the D tonight, amirite?
I have very little bad things to say about this game. I found some of the "next steps" of the puzzle to be hard to find and not obvious on occasion, but this might be due to me and is not really a flaw of the game. The only thing I disliked about the game where the "battles" that came during the end of every chapter. If I hadn't known in advance how many hits it would take to kill the monster I would've found the game a lot more frustrating. Though finally killing it is satisfying, I find them an unnecessary feature of the game and think that they don't really fit the atmosphere of it.

Shit kid, I don't care if you're a kawaii little shota get the hell out of my damned way
In conclusion, I found it to be a very solid game that's definitely worth the play.

I wanted to somehow fit in how cute I found David in this review  but I wasn't entirely sure where
I got the good end on my first try. Supposedly there's some new content on the second so I might write about it here when I do it.
